First ( and most complicated ) header tube is now more or less in the intended position. The space available between engine and chassis is a very narrow slit and gives no room for a circular vortex configuration : the pipes will be lined up into a large diameter collector pipe with all tubes pointing rearward, thus creating a ( hopefully ) good pull towards the exit of the collector pipe.

The work of bending the tubes is done with the header bolted to a separate UNP-profile serving as a solid anchor plate.


In order to be able to bend the tubes without altering the interior diameter, each tube has been filled with ( very ) tight pressed dry sand and fitted with end plugs. The work is tricky, but amazingly controllable once the “feeling” of the correct heat-application and red hot color is learn.

But it is a work best made without any time pressure !
