In the eighties I purchased a 2nd hand Autobianchi A112 for my wife....it was a dull yellow, some corrosion here and there ( it was after all an italian car in salty Denmark ) and after returning from a trip to visit family in Arras, France, I found it necessary to rebuild the engine-head because the ignition advance mechanism had seized during the drive back to Denmark so the engine had been extremely overheating...with redhot exhaust headers. So one ting took the other...and I found myself doing a complete rebuild and customizing of the car....I had then no garage, so it was done outside, however the paint job was done in a proper paint cabin.
The engine head was completely ported and blueprinted.....and this made realy a difference to performance !!
And being a Ladies Car.....it needed some PINK touch !
After completion......I had this car only one year : a friend of mine, who did some speedtrack racing, tried the car....and promptly "forced" me to sell him the car pronto for his racing sesions.....my wife said ok, if I could compensate her with a new car....the price agreed for the Autobianchi did allow me to purchase my wife a cute Peugeot 205 Lacoste, the juppie-car of the year.
